Nest 9R Inventory: August 18, 2024

The Sunday team enjoyed a cool morning with a beautiful sunrise and view of the small body of water that has formed behind the dunes due to Hurricane Debby.

After they were done with their walk, they met the rest of the volunteers at Nest 9R for the inventory! This nest was originally laid on June 18th, close to the jetty so the Tuesday team relocated the nest.

When relocating, they counted 140 eggs! The nest hatched on Thursday, August 15th, which was day 58. There were a lot of new volunteers that has not gotten to experience an inventory before, so we all got to work.

Taking turns digging, sorting and digging we ended up with great results! There were 134 hatched eggs, 4 unhatched eggs and 2 LIVE hatchlings!

The whole team was estatic about the hatchlings and results. The rates for this nest are: 95.7% hatched, and 94.2% emergence. We all helpled the hatchlings to the wet sand and watched as they made their way to the ocean.

Seeing their little tracks never gets old.
