Friday and N14 inventory

Beautiful morning on Waties. Except for the nasty biting flies!

Kim T, Linda, and Melissa walked the island and nothing much has changed. We did see tracks of a few stragglers at nest 16.

We were joined by Barb and Steve and  Cherie (photographer extraodinaire), as well as 16 CCU students to inventory nest 14. This nest was laid 7/6 close to the dunes. We had many unusually windy days piling much sand on top of this nest (as well as others).  Volunteers attempted to clear sand multiple times throughout the incubation period. In the end, the egg chamber was measured at 4 1/2' deep. What strong little hatchlings to climb up and out.  107 hatched and 11 unhatched.

hatch success 89.9%

emergence success 89.9%
